Coastal Housing Group

Coastal’s Head of Finance, Howard Davies, writes “A successful bid would help refocus and validate our current efforts and energy with regards to the regeneration of the High Street. This bid emphasizes the partnership approach already occurring with regards to Third Sector, social enterprises, Swansea BID, local authority and the creative industries to link the different cultures, trades, skill sets and ideas of the High Street together. A successful bid may also help shift our organization into new partnerships and new ways of thinking about regeneration. We would like Coastal Housing Group to be seen as the centre from within which a new strategy for regeneration may emerge. If we are selected to deliver IPP we think it may have a fundamental effect on our culture and our business strategy. The bid allows the High Street to become a central focus point for energizing this under-utilized and neglected area of Swansea and brings community pride back to this important street, which is the main thoroughfare from the train station to the centre of Swansea.”

Coastal Housing is a major developer in Swansea and Neath Port Talbot with a strong social remit, a commitment to regeneration, and an established presence and influence in Swansea High Street and its connected and adjacent areas. In addition to its wide range of affordable housing, Coastal is a specialist in mixed-use urban development combining residential, commercial, social and cultural spaces. Coastal has long espoused the concept of Meanwhile Use – facilitating and enabling access to otherwise unused spaces by local creative people and organizations as an effective catalyst for longer-term regeneration.

Coastal is an Industrial and Provident Society – a not-for-profit organization operating primarily for the benefit of the community. Coastal designs for people with differing needs, lifestyles and housing preferences, and has expertise in supporting people who require adapted homes or need help in managing tenancies, and also provides specialist services for older people. The Board of Management includes tenant members, helps the Group to decide its strategy, advises on managing and improving services, and also monitors financial performance.
