We have commissioned local artist Sean Puleston to create small temporary interactions with spaces and objects that already exist along Swansea High Street.
He chose to highlight and develop the idea of an electric box, the street has at least 4 of these large blue metal boxes that act as safety boxes and electric access points. They are dark, chipped, dirty and generally unappealing. Their function is private and closed off, leaving everyone who uses the street to just accept their unattractive presence. Sean has designed a simple cover that could be fitted over the top of these boxes (without impeding their original function) but would also add another use to the space – either as a flower bed or maybe even a mini library? Most importantly the materials have all been recycled and rescued from going to a landfill, cost effective and environmentally friendly.
